In 2025 when Rodborough Community Hall was closing for rebuilding this old chest was rediscovered at the bottom of a cupboard. Remembering Rodborough has been invited by the Parish Council to examine and archive the contents and we hope that anything with significant historical value will be transferred to Gloucestershire Archives.
Parish Councils replaced the Vestry system in 1894 and Rodborough Parish Council held its first meeting at the Endowed School in January 1895. It’s possible that the chest may date to very early days.
The new meeting room facility is ideal for the job and in March 2026 we are beginning to examine the contents in detail.
The oldest item is a pre-formatted book signed by each Parish Councillor on acceptance of office and first signed by members of Rodborough’s first Parish Council on 31st December 1894.
